Caned headboard
Hand-made and hand-painted, our 18th Century Gustavian inspired cane headboard features artichoke carvings above corner detailings and side fluting.
Cane has been used since ancient times, proof of that is the famous cane coffin holding a Moche princess being buried in Peru around AD 750 and a woven cane bed that was buried in Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1323 BC. This unique material moved from basketry to furniture making, which first became popular in the 1660s in Holland, England and France due to widespread trade with Asia. Cane is known for being hygienic and airy due to its lightness and cleanness from dust and insects, it also makes for a lighter and durable option from solid wood.
