Venetian Damask, is our first wallpaper collaboration with designer Patrick Kinmonth, inspired by the traditions of printed papers & woven silk damask in Venice.Damask, named after the city of Damascus where it was made from the middle ages onward, takes shapes derived from nature and abstracted into patterns over hundreds of years, travelling from east to west along the silk road, bringing its exotic garden of idealised plant forms to the finest medieval interiors. Damask is characterised by surface contrasts of light and shade, the pattern integrated into the fabric’s warp and weft on the loom. Our Venetian Damask attempts to capture some of the subtle layers of poetry and history of a faded hanging on a palace wall, revealed by sunlight.
